VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) For the 2nd consecutive year, Valley City and surrounding area will host the Special Olympics North Dakota State Winter Games.
More than 150 Special Olympics athletes, children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and Unified Partners from throughout North Dakota will compete in the two-day event for the chance to be a state champion. Competition held in these Winter Sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoe Racing and Unified Team Handball.
The event will be held Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19, at the Valley City Recreation Center Valley City Auditorium Metcalf Farms ?Cross Country Ski & Snowshoe racing site Fort Ransom ?Bears Den Mountain Ski Area ?Alpine Skiing site Schedule of Events: Friday, Jan. 18th -11:00 a.m. ?Opening Ceremony @ VC Auditorium -1:00 p.m. ?Handball, Snowshoe, & Cross Country skiing competition begin -1:30 p.m. ?Alpine Skiing competition begins -7:30 p.m. ?Evening dance and outdoor Olympic Village begin Saturday, Jan. 19th -8:30 a.m. ?Handball competition resumes Individual and Group Volunteer Areas and Opportunities include: Facilities set up and support, Team Handball timers and scorekeepers, Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoe racing competition support, Alpine Skiing competition support, Athlete meal preparation and distribution, All-Tournament Team support and Awards.
